Hi Julie. I had a lot of tongues training like yours almost 50 years ago. But one instance was different than others. I awoke one morning with the thought of women being silent in the church. I understood that as being a cultural norm when that was written, but the Spirit was prompting me to study it out. When I located the verse (1Cor. 14:34), I saw the chapter was about tongues. Prophecy is Christ speaking to us, and so is tongues if it is interpreted, or given to someone in their native language but not ours. But it says we shouldn't do it corporately without it being interpreted. As I pondered that, the Spirit asked me, "Who is the Bride? Who is the Husband?" This chapter speaks about order in the church. Church is a time for us, the Bride of Christ, to listen to Jesus, our Husband. Our prayer language (tongues) is for us (our spirit) to speak to Him. We miss what He has to say if we don't be silent enough for Him to speak. 1Cor. 14 makes a lot more sense to me now.

John, that makes a crazy amount of sense. And we are all His bride. Wow. Church is listening time for all of us. Thank you for reading and for coming by to comment. I appreciate it very very much. 👍🏼

Good stuff. I like the innocence of it. Just seeking the Lord and developing intimacy with Him. Beautiful.

I do believe some are given the gift of tongues, prophecy, etc. It is an important part of HIS work since Jesus ascended to heaven after the Resurrection. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to all who believe. I am thankful for HIS presence in me. I do not believe I have the gift of tongues. Yet I believe my prayers are heard. I feel the guidance of the Holy Spirit. He speaks to me, nudges me comforts me, convicts me, gives me words to say to others especially sharing the Goapel, words of encouragement and comfort to others. Helps me remember what I've learned from the Word. I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit in my life.

I have a question about whether prayers in our own language aren't received with the same urgency as prayers in tongues? Maybe I misunderstood this part of your article.

Romans 8:26 "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans."
